Card Review LR Phantom Aria [GD04]

Mastering Gundam Pharact: A Game-Changer for Academy Decks

Gundam Pharact [LR] is a Level 6 Green UNIT from Phantom Aria that combines lethal shield damage on kill with a once-per-turn EX Resource engine, making it a potent threat in Academy-based strategies.

Gundam Pharact [LR] doesn’t just win combat — it punishes your opponent for surviving it, threading shield pressure and resource generation into a single Level 6 body that Academy decks have been waiting for.

What Does It Do?

Pharact carries two distinct effects. The first is a kill-trigger: When this Unit’s attack destroys an enemy Unit, deal the specified amount of damage to the first card in that opponent’s shield area. Destroying a Unit isn’t just a tempo play — it immediately chips the shield zone, compressing the number of resources standing between you and a direct win. The second effect is a Once per Turn resource engine: During your turn, when one of your other (Academy) Units receives damage from an enemy, place 1 EX Resource. This is a reactive trigger on your own turn, meaning it fires during your attack phase when your Academy Units trade into or get blocked by opposing Units. Together, the two effects create a card that simultaneously threatens the shield zone and fuels your hand and board for follow-up plays.

Why Is It Good?

The shield-damage-on-kill effect is deceptively punishing. In GCG, shield cards are your opponent’s last line of defense before taking direct damage, so any effect that bypasses the normal combat pipeline to chip shields is inherently high-value. Pharact doesn’t need a separate attack to threaten the shield zone — the kill itself is the trigger. At AP 5, Pharact trades cleanly into most Level 5 and many Level 6 Units, meaning the kill condition is realistic rather than aspirational. The EX Resource trigger on your other Academy Units taking damage rewards aggressive, wide attacks. When you swing with a full board of Academy Units and your opponent blocks, each blocked Academy Unit that takes damage generates an EX Resource — potentially banking multiple resources in a single attack phase. At Cost 4 on a Level 6 body with 5 AP and 4 HP, the stat line is efficient enough that Pharact demands an answer the turn it lands.

Who Pilots It?

Pharact is linked to [Elan Ceres], the pilot associated with this Gundam in Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury. Any deck running Elan Ceres as a pilot can unlock Pharact’s full linked potential, so you’ll want to build around securing that pilot in your resource zone. Elan Ceres pilot cards should be prioritized in deck construction to ensure the link condition is consistently met — missing the link on a Level 6 LR is a significant tempo loss.

When Do You Play It?

Pharact wants to hit the board on turn four or five into an established Academy board presence. The EX Resource trigger only fires when your *other* Academy Units take damage, so Pharact is at its best as a finisher dropped into an already-wide board rather than as a lone threat. Ideally, you’re deploying Pharact when you have two or more Academy Units ready to attack, so the resource trigger has targets to fire on. The shield-damage kill trigger then closes out the turn by punching through whatever survives. Avoid playing Pharact into an empty board — without other Academy Units, the resource engine is completely dormant.

Deck Building Tips

Build around a critical mass of (Academy) trait Units to maximize the EX Resource trigger — aim for eight or more Academy Units in the deck so the board is reliably wide when Pharact arrives. Prioritize cards that generate additional Academy Units at low cost to ensure board presence by turn four. Elan Ceres pilot cards are non-negotiable inclusions; run the maximum allowed copies to guarantee the link. EX Resource sinks — cards that spend EX Resources for powerful effects — should also be included to convert Pharact’s passive income into action. Look for other Academy Units with on-attack or on-damage triggers to create compound value chains during your attack phase. Cards that grant your Units additional attacks or push-through effects synergize directly with the shield-damage kill trigger, giving Pharact more opportunities to fire.

Competitive Verdict

Gundam Pharact [LR] is a legitimate competitive threat in Green Academy builds — it pressures the shield zone on kills, banks EX Resources passively during your attack phase, and does both on a stat line that demands a response. It’s not a splash card; it needs an Academy shell to function, which keeps it out of generic Green lists. But inside that shell, it pulls serious weight as a mid-to-late curve anchor. **If you’re running Green Academy, Pharact is your finisher — build around it, link Elan Ceres, and watch your opponent’s shield zone evaporate.**
